Born in Christchurch in 1879, Raymond McIntyre studied at the Canterbury School of Art and later taught there. He worked with Petrus Van Der Velden, and was primarily a studio painter. In 1909 he travelled to England where he is believed to have studied under William Nicholson and Walter Sickert. McIntyre exhibited widely in England, including with the Royal Academy. He exhibited in 1910 with the Thames Valley Art Club and in 1911 with London Goupil Gallery. His work was accepted for exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1924. McIntyre ceased exhibiting in 1926. He died in London in 1933.
