Born in England in 1834, Caroline Le Souef (nee Cotton) arrived in Australia in 1843. Setteling in the Goulburn Valley her family had frequent contact with the local Aboriginal population. Caroline married Albert Le Souef, the son of the regional protector of Aboriginals. Working in both oils and watercolour painter she painted scenes of Aboriginal life. She exhibited at the Melbourne Public Library.
