Born in England in 1957 Janet Hayes arrived in Australia in 1963. She studied at the Melbourne College of Decoration in the late 70s, then life drawing with Con Pappas at Era School, Donvale, and in the mid-eighties, studied portraiture with artist Daniel Greene in New York. Janet Hayes has had eight solo exhibitions in Australia, and many group exhibitions.She received the Allied Artists of America Award at the Pastel Society of America annual exhibition in New York City in 1993 and in July 2019 she won the Inaugural John Dudley Portrait Prize awarded by the Emerald Arts Society for her Self Portrait.
