Born in England in 1879, Friedensen studied at the Royal College of Art, South Kensington. He arrived in Australia in 1921, later becoming a member of the Royal Art Society of NSW and the Australian Painters and Etchers Society. Principally an etcher, his works are represented in the print collections of several state galleries.
The total number of works by Thomas Friedensen offered for sale by auction since 1975 is 95, of which 76 (80%) were sold. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Thomas Friedensen are held by the National Gallery of Victoria, National Gallery of Australia and a further three major public national galleries (see list below).
