About Brian James Gilligan
Born in Melbourne in 1930, Brian Gilligan studied at Royal Melbourne Insitute of Technology and the National Gallery School, Melbourne under Dudley Wood. A traditional watercolourist, he exhibited in Melbourne from 1981 and won several suburban and provincial prizes. As well as being an artist he studied furniture design and operated a design business catering to architects and builders, and was President of the Inventors Association for many years.
The earliest auction listing we have for Brian Gilligan is in 1982 and in total 49 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 26 (53%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,200 for Summer Mountain and Stream sold by Leonard Joel in August 1993.
