Born in Austria in 1943, Rische studied at the Vienna Academy of Arts before coming to Australia via Africa and India after completing his military service. After working for a time as a stockman, crocodile and buffalo hunter, opal miner and dingo trapper in the Northern Territory, he moved to Bahrs Scrub, south of Brisbane in Queensland where he painted outback themed scenes of the northern cattle areas. According to his memorial stone the correct spelling of his name is "Rishe".
