Don McAra was educated at the University of Otago and completed his MA at the University of Canterbury, and a Diploma of Drama in Education at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. His early art studies were at the School of Art, Dunedin and he studied water colour with H.V. Miller in Dunedin)and Life Studies with Doris Lusk in Christchurch. He became a full time artist after many years as a Senior Lecturer at Christchurch College of Education. He is based in Christchurch and specialises in landscapes in both oil and watercolour. Don has exhibited widely throughout New Zealand over the past 30+ years, often with other notable fellow New Zealand artists. He allows time for regular travel to Europe to help further fuel his passion for painting.
We have records of art auction sales by Don McAra from 2000 and in total 20 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 19 (95%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $4,912 for Late Summer Afternoon, Near Cass sold by International Art Centre in July 2003.
