Sculptor Margaret Sinclair was born in Adelaide in 1918 and studied at the South Australian School of Art in the late 1930s, and again in 1957 to 1964. She worked and studied in the UK and Europe in the 1940s and again in the early 1970s. She was a member of the of the Contemporary Art Society in Adelaide from 1960 to 1970 and Royal South Australian Society of the Arts from 1959 to 1965 and held numerous solo exhibitions in Adelaide. In 1966 she was awarded a Churchill Memorial Scholarship allowing her to study and work at the famous Battaglia artists foundry in Milan, Italy.. She taught art and craft in technical high schools in the early 1960s, and sculpture at summer schools for the adult education board and Perth University in WA..
