About Michael Snape
Painter and sculptor Michael Snape was born in Sydney in 1951. He studied at the National Art School in Sydney from 1970 to 1971 and from 1978 to 1979 visited the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States where he studied and worked. He has shown in 30 solo exhibitions predominantly in Sydney between 1974 and 2020 as well as participating in numerous group shows. He has been awarded numerous commissions for publicly displayed and private sculpture, mostly in Sydney. In 2021 he was a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize.
We have records of art auction sales by Michael Snape from 1990 and in total 13 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 11 (85%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $4,880 for VIsta 5 sold by Mossgreen Auctions in November 2011. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Michael Snape are held by the Heide Museum of Modern Art, Art Gallery of NSW and National Gallery of Australia.
