Born in Ebling, Prussia in 1779 Jacob Janssen arrived in Sydney in 1840. A portrait, topographical and miniaturist painter, his work was included in the Art Gallery of New South Wales showing The Artist and the Patron in 1988 and the Great Australian Art Exhibition, 1788-1988 at the Commonwealth Art Institute in London in 1988.
