Born in Milford, Surrey, England in 25 March 1849, Charles Dickson Gregory Junior arrived in Australia as a child with his father in 1851 and lived in Melbourne area. An oil painter and watercolourist, he frequently painted birds. Gregory was a founding member of the Victorian Academy of Arts, but returned to London at the age of 24, studied at the Royal Academy School in London and became a member of the Newlyn School of artists. He lived in Cornwall, Buckinghamshire, and Surrey. He is best known for his his dainty watercolour landscape paintings, many of which are held in the La Trobe Library, Melbourne.
