Born in Melbourne in 1947, Robert Hunter studied at Preston Technical College in Melbourne. A painter and minimalist, he has exhibited his work widely in Australia and overseas since 1968. Up to 2006 he had held 31 solo shows in Melbourne and Sydney. In 1989 Robert Hunter had a major retrospective at Monash University followed by an exhibition of the paintings completed during a residency at the University of Melbourne.
The total number of works by Robert Hunter offered for sale by auction since 1984 is 67, of which 41 (61%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $58,909 for Untitled #7 sold by Menzies in March 2023. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
