A New Zealand artist, Jesse Hollobon was born in 1860. He grew up in Christchurch and had an art shop locally. Although mainly a watercolourist, he also painted in oils and enjoyed woodcarving. He exhibited with the Auckland Society of Arts, South Canterbury Art Society, and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts for nine years. He made pew ends for several churches. A religious man, he once spent time on Quail Island looking after the lepers there.
We have records of art auction sales by Jesse Hollobon from 1993 and in total 47 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 34 (72%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,835 for HMS Rangitikei sold by Webb's in September 2008. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2021.
