Born in England in 1931, Timothy Garrity arrived in New Zealand in 1948. After study in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland he travelled extensively overseas. He worked with Colin McCahon between 1962 and 1963 and represented New Zealand at the 1963 Paris Biennale. Tim administered Auckland Gallery’s Research Library from 1975 until the end of 1977, and in 1978 became Curator of Pictures at the Hocken Collection, at the University of Otago in Dunedin, a position he held for 20 years.
The total number of works by Tim Garrity offered for sale by auction since 1990 is 19, of which 13 (68%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,838 for Spanish Girl sold by International Art Centre in March 2005. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Tim Garrity are held by the Auckland Art Gallery.
