Born in Perth in 1901, Edith Trethowan studied under Henri van Raalte, and at Perth Technical College from c.1915 to 1920 under J. W. R. Linton and A. B. Webb from 1925 to 1927. A painter and printmaker, she began wood engraving in 1927. In 1925 she exhibited a watercolour with the W.A. Society of Arts and in 1931 she showed nine woodcuts in a joint exhibition, and from 1933 to 1936 exhibited her woodcuts with the Perth Society of Artists. She died in 1939 from tuberculosis.
