Born in Victoria in 1861, Clara Southern studied in Melbourne under Folingsby, McCubbin and Withers. She lived at the Artists' Camp at Warrandyte where she worked with the major artists of the period. She was a member of the Australian Art Association and the Victorian Artists' Society Council.
