Born in 1939, Barbara Beasley-Southgate was a self taught artist and teacher. She painted mainly in pastels and oils, but is also noted for her work in gouache and sometimes watercolour. She was a member of the Victorian Artists Society, a former councillor and Fellow of The Australian Guild of Realist Artists, and an honorary life member and Past President of Sherbrooke Art Society; and a member of the Pastel Society of Victoria.
