John Emmett was born in 1927 at Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. He was educated at Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire and Manchester University and and came to Australia in 1948. He was appointed Managing Director of Sherwood Radio Pty.Ltd 1952-1956 and was then employed as an announcer and Station Manager at 2KA Katoomba from 1956-63. In 1964 he designed and built the "Three Explorers Motel" in Katoomba. Around this time he began painting Blue Mountains scenes as a resident of Katoomba from 1956-2000, bush and water scenes, and later scenes of Fiji, New Zealand, England, Scotland and Wales. He moved to Raby Bay, Cleveland, Queensland in July 2000.
