Frances Walker Tizard (nee Brassey) was born in Australia in 1850. She emigrated to New Zealand in 1874 to marry Edward Fawconer Tizard and settled at Kopu, 107 km north of Auckland. A botanical watercolour artist, she competed in Australian art competitions and won an award at the Sydney Exhibition of 1879 and a bronze medal for wild flower painting at the 1880-81 Melbourne International Exhibition.

The total number of works by Frances Tizard offered for sale by auction since 2004 is 37, of which 30 (81%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,815 for Mt Taranaki with Homestead c. 1880 sold by Dunbar Sloane in April 2004.
