Born in England in 1846, James Trevithick trained as a naval architect and civil engineer. He arrived in New Zealand in 1879 and was employed as drawing master with the Auckland Education Board, and later with Auckland Grammar School. James Trevithick died in 1911. His work is represented in the Turnbull Library in Wellington.
