Born in Bamberg, Germany in 1915 Hans Knorr moved to South Africa where he lived from 1934 to 1946, and then moving to Australia in that year. He is a sculptor in wood, bronze, stone and mixed media, many of which were commissioned for churches. In 1961, he opened his own gallery, the Emerald Gallery in the Dandenong Ranges area of Melbourne, which he ran for many years.
