Born in Belfast in 1951 David Thomas arrived in Australia in 1958. He was awarded a Diploma Of Teaching (Secondary Art and Craft) The University of Melbourne in 1972, a Graduate Diploma in Visual Art ( Painting ) Monash University in 1987, an M.A. in Fine Art (Painting ) RMIT University in 1992 and a Ph.D. at RMIT University in 2004 . He is currently Professor of Fine Art (Painting) at the School of Art. RMIT University in Melbourne. A teacher, painter and printmaker he has worked widely in New Zealand, and exhibited in solo and group shows in Australia and overseas.
