Born in New Zealand in 1880, Sherwood studied under James Nairn prior to her arrival in Australia in 1915. After an eight-year period in Europe, she returned to Australia in 1933 and held several successful exhibitions. She was a member of the New South Wales Society of Artists. Her work is represented in the Western Australian and New South Wales state galleries. She is also known as: Maud Kimbell; Maud Winifred Sherwood; Maud Sherwood; Maud Winifred Kimbell.
