Born in Sydney in 1925, Leslie Campbell studied at the National Art School, Sydney in the 1930s, and after World War II, where he served in the RAAF. A realist painter, he is the brother of Reg Campbell. He moved to the Gisborne area New Zealand in 1978, and has exhibited in both countries since the early 1950s. He is the brother of artist Reg Campbell (1923 - 2008).
