Georgiana Huntly McCrae, artist and diarist, was born in London in 1804. Prior to migrating to Australia she was taught drawing and painting by John Varley and others, and miniature painting by Charles Hayter. She studied at the Royal Academy became known as a portrait painter and miniaturist. She landed in Melbourne in 1841, but appears to have done little painting after her arrival. Her diary 'Georgiana's Journal' was edited by her grandson Hugh McCrae and published in 1934.
