Mary Milton was born at Victor Harbour in 1936 and completed her secondary education at St Aloysius College, Adelaide, during World War II. She then studied art at the South Australian School of Arts and Craft and then lectured there from 1958 for almost 20 years. She is perhaps best known as a portrait and wildlife artist; her skills include pen drawing, pen and wash, watercolour, acrylics, oils, sculpture and pastel. She gained a higher public profile through her illustrations for several of Colin Thiele’s books, including Farmer Schulz’s Ducks and The March of Mother Duck, as well as illustrating books for Rigby Ltd., Walter McVitty Books and Weldon’s Publishing.
