Little is known of the artistic career Henry Turbitt (or Turbett) who arrived in Sydney in 1816, one of 145 convicts transported on board the Mariner. He was originally from Middlesex and had been found guilty of stealing a shawl and sentenced to seven years jail and transportation. He was freed in 1825 and lived in Newcastle. He died in 1840 aged 43.

Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 2004.

Henry Turbitt is not listed in any of the standard biographical references listed on our references page.
