Born in Goulbourn in 1949, but now living and working in the Windsor area of New South Wales, Greg Hansell studied in Sydney and exhibited widely in and around Sydney. He has been a full-time artist since 1980 in the traditionalist or realist school of Australian painting. His medium is pastel and he uses a combination of handmade earth pastels and Schmincke pastels. He is a fellow of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales. He has been a finalist over 20 times in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald and Wynne prizes and Salon de Refuse and was awarded a Centenary of Federation medal in 2001 for services to community arts and Windsor Library.
