Born in Leichhardt, New South Wales in 1942, Brian Maloney had no formal art training. He worked as a commercial artist for a period and later travelled through Europe and Asia in the early 1970s. He is a painter of street scenes, surreal landscapes and has also produced a series of paintings of marine life and shells. He has held numerous exhibitions in Sydney in the 1970s and 1980s.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,840 for Jewels of the Reef sold by Elder Fine Art in July 2016.
