About Mary Gedye
Mary Gedye (nee Wintle) was born in Hobart Town in 1834. second daughter of Samuel James Wintle and Mary Anne, nee Magill. In 1839 the family moved to Sydney where she began drawing lessons, A watercolourist, all of her surviving works date from after her marriage in 1851. She exhibited at the Sydney exhibition preceding the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1867, in 1870 at the Sydney Intercolonial Exhibition and the New South Wales Academy of Art in 1872. Mary Harriet Gedye died at Eastbourne, UK on 31 January 1876.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1997.
