About John Baird (Sculptor)
John Baird was born in 1834, in County Armagh, in Northern Ireland and migrated to Sydney in 1849, where he lived for the rest of his life. He was a self taught sculptor in shale, working in the 1880s which he carved in his spare time. A carved bust of his wife, Jane Baird is held in the National Gallery of Australia.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 2008.
