Born at Williamstown, South Australia in 1894, McNamara studied under James Ashton, Dattilo Rubbo and James R. Jackson. The winner of numerous prizes, she exhibited in Sydney, Melbourne and London and in a special exhibition of artists of the British Empire in 1920. She was a member of the Royal South Australian Society of Artists.
