Born in Sydney in 1902, Sheila McDonald studied at the East Sydney Technical College and under Julian Ashton and Desiderius Orban. She travelled extensively throughout Europe, Asia and the Pacific. She painted from several converted houses in the East Sydney area until her death in 1971. The first of her many exhibitions was held in Sydney in 1958 and her paintings were included in the 1962 exhibition at the Sao Paulo Biennale.
We have records of art auction sales by Sheila McDonald from 1975 and in total 45 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 29 (64%) were sold. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Sheila McDonald are held by the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of NSW and Heide Museum of Modern Art.
