Born in the UK in 1894, Rayner Hoff arrived in Sydney in 1923. A sculptor and teacher, he studied in England and Rome before accepting an appointment as teacher at East Sydney Technical College where he remained until his death in 1937. Amongst his commissioned works are the sculptures for the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, Sydney, the carved figures for the South Australian War Memorial in Adelaide and busts of many of his contemporaries such as Norman Lindsay and Dame Mary Gilmore.
