About Marion E. Tylee
Born in New Zealand in 1900 Marion Tylee studied privately in New Zealand in the late 1920s, at the Slade School of Art in London and in Paris at Colarossi's Studio. A painter, teacher and printmaker she produced still life, landscapes and portraits. In the late 1940s she settled in Palmerston North and taught art. Amongst the artist's societies, she exhibited with the Auckland Society of Arts in 1948, the Hays Art Competitions in 1966, the Canterbury Society of Arts, the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1933 and the Rutland Group.
We have records of art auction sales by Marion Tylee from 1989 and in total 26 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 22 (85%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,376 for Kakariki and Kerereu sold by Webb's in September 2003. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2019. Works by Marion Tylee are held by the Museum Of New Zealand.
