Born in Victoria in 1943, Michael Winters studied in Melbourne and Stockholm. He paints in a contemporary style using various media, is a printmaker and teacher and has exhibited extensively in Australia and overseas since 1965. Winters has also worked in Greece and has illustrated the works of Greek poets. He has received a number of art awards and with artists Brian Dunlop, Jeff Rigby and Fred Genis published three editions of impressions of the Barossa Valley (1981).

The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,600 for The Edge, Coogee sold by Aust. Art Auctions in December 1991.
