About Gerrard Lants
Born in Sydney in 1927 Gerrard Lants studied at the National Art School in Sydney and was a painter, illustrator and cartoonist, and in this capacity he worked for newspapers and magazines in Australia and overseas. As a cartoonist he was know for his comic strip "Basil" which was published in "The Herald" in Melbourne and two United States newspapers. He was known for his period style watercolours and his first solo exhibition was in Melbourne in 1977. He subsequently exhibited in Adelaide, Sydney, Geelong and the Gold Coast.
Gerrard Lants is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1976 of 679, of which 452 (67%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,575 for Edwardian Beach Scene, Back Beach, Portsea sold by Goodmans Auctioneers in March 1994. This year one work has been offered for sale.
