Born in about 1817, Horace Samson arrived in Perth from England in 1841. He worked as a topographical draughtsman with the Land and Survey Department, moving to Melbourne to a similar job in about 1854. He eventually became Deputy Registrar General, Crown Law office in the 1880s. On his retirement he returned to England.
