A Sydney artist Cherry Hood is known for her pale and faded portraits, often of young boys or men, usually with vacant lost eyes. She studied sculpture at the University of Fine Art in Perugia, Italy and painting at the National Art School. She held her first solo exhibition in Sydney in 2001 and after being a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize in 2001, she won the Archibald Prize in 2002. She has continued exhibiting holding shows at galleries in Melbourne, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Zurich and Toronto.
The total number of works by Cherry Hood offered for sale by auction since 2002 is 155, of which 76 (49%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $32,400 for Brother and Sister 2003 sold by Deutscher~Menzies in December 2007. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Cherry Hood are held by the National Portrait Gallery, Art Gallery of South Australia and Queensland Art Gallery.
