Painter and art teacher, Chris Gentle grew up on a farm in Sussex, UK and studied art at the West Sussex College of Art and then was awarded an Art Teaching Diploma from the Institute of Education, London University. He emigrated to Australia in 1967 and taught at Sydney's National Art School in 1969, and was Senior Lecturer Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education (later University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts) from 1975 - 1994. Between 1977 and 1986 he was the inaugural director of the College's Ivan Dougherty Gallery. Chris Gentle is known for his landscape paintings and was a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize in 2015. His works have been included in group and solo exhibitions throughout Australia.
