Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1936, Morris arrived in Sydney in 1948. He studied part time and Royal Melbourne Institute of technology from from 1953 to 1956. He became well known as an ornithological artist and painted two dioramas for the National Museum of Victoria. From 1969 to the mid 1980s, he researched, wrote and illustrated several books on Australian birds. He later changed to a semi-surrealist style depicting mythological and other subjects. He has held solo exhibitions in Melbourne from 1973.
