About John Charles Tole
Born in Auckland in 1890, John Tole was a lawyer and amateur painter until taking up painting full time in the 1950s, after studying with Walter Wright. He painted landscapes and still life studies mainly in oil, in a broad simplified modernist style similar to that of his brother, Charles.
