Born in Victoria in 1894, Rowell studied extensively in Melbourne, Europe and America. He taught art in various schools in Victoria and was also vice president of the National Theatre Movement. Rowell's landscapes and outdoor scenes have wide appeal. His work is represented in state and provincial galleries and in the National Collection in Canberra.
