Born in Prague in 1908, Perle Hessing arrived in Australia in 1951. She is a self taught naive painter, reflecting the general life and folklore of Jewish ghetto life. Since her arrival in Australia she has been influenced and encouraged by Desiderius Orban. She moved to the United Kingdom c1973 where she died in 2001. She is the mother of artist Leonard Hessing (1931-2004).

We have records of art auction sales by Perle Hessing from 1974 and in total 27 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 16 (59%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,155 for Farm Scene sold by Lawsons in November 1993. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Perle Hessing are held by the National Gallery of Australia.
