About Bella Kelly
Australian Aboriginal artist Bella Kelly was born in Mount Barker in 1915 near Albany, Western Australia. A self taught artist, she started painting in the 1940s in watercolour and gouache, depicting the landscape of the Great Southern area where she lived. The majority of her paintings feature the Stirling Ranges in the background. During her life she lived through several little towns throughout the Great Southern, with various family members. She continued painting until she passed away in 1994. The Bella Kelly Retrospective was on display at the John Curtin Gallery in August 2016
