Born in England in 1860, Frank Wright studied art in London before emigrating to New Zealand in 1877. Mostly known for his landscapes in watercolour, he exhibited with the Auckland Society of Arts from 1885. He and his brother, Walter, taught privately in Auckland. After touring New Zealand the two brothers published 'New Zealand: Painted by F & W Wright: Described by Hon W P Reeves' in 1908. Frank Wright was also a musician and member of a number of musical societies.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $14,966 for Mt. Sefton sold by International Art Centre in November 2000. This year 3 works have been offered for sale.
