Charlotte Picken (nee Davis) was born in Sydney in 1844. She was a student of Julian Ashton and continued her studies in Europe. while in Paris she was awarded the Calorissi Medal for Portraiture. She also gained the Princess of Teck prize at the British Exhibtion for landscape painting. One of her works was exhibited in the Paris salon. During World War I she worked as as an ambulance driver, and after the war lectured at the Tate and Wallace Galleries in London. She died in London in 1930.

Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1996.
