William James Young (known to his friends as Bill) was born 1949 Ireland, and arrived in Australia the following year. He was educated at the South Australian School of Art. Working primarily in oils and later in acrylics, he was active from 1970's to 2020. Bill Young was represented by Australian Galleries, Melbourne in the 1980's and then Cowarr Art Space in Gippsland, where he held a number of solo exhibitions. With colleague Rodney Scherer, he completed a 40 metre mural at the Yallourn Power Station Turbine Hall in 1991. He never worked in watercolour or produced silkscreen or etchings. He signed his paintings "WJY", "William Young" or "Young". He passed away on 28th July 2021.
