Born in the United Kingdom in 1952, Margot Hutcheson studied art in London in 1970 and 1971 before travelling to Australia in 1974 and at that time was the partner of Australian writer Peter Carey. She held her first solo exhibition of her paintings in Sydney in 1981, followed by a further 10 solo shows. In 1990, Hutcheson left Australia for Spain, where she worked until 1996, then moved back to London.
