Born in England in 1923, Thomas Good arrived in New Zealand in 1845 and took up land in Taranaki during the Maori Land Wars. He designed and built the Omata Stockade. As a Captain of the Bushrangers, he received a land grant at Urenui. In 1875 he moved to Oeo and in 1901 to Hawera, where he died. A watercolourist, he is best remembered for the scenes he documented from the New Zealand wars. His work is reproduced in C. F. Hursthouse’s account of the Settlement at New Plymouth and he is represented in the Hocken and Turnbull Libraries.

According to our records which cover the last 50 years, only 3 works by this artist have been sold by auction, of the 6 works offered for sale.
